Today tab & calendar
The Today tab is your school's shared calendar. Post class schedules, gradings, closures and one-off events, and send announcements from the same place. Members browse events in a list or on a month calendar, open any event for the full details, and add it to their iPhone Calendar with one tap.
The Today tab
The Today tab is the fifth tab in the bottom bar. Two segmented tabs sit at the top:
- Events — your school's classes, gradings, camps and closures, grouped by day.
- Announcements — messages you've posted, grouped by recency. See Announcements for how to write them.
Under the Events tab, a control bar gives you three tools:
- Filter — opens a sheet to narrow events by type, grade, or instructor.
- Search — expands into a field that matches an event's name, description, and dates. Type a word like grading, a weekday like friday, a month like june, or a phrase like this week.
- List or Calendar — a toggle that switches between the day-by-day list and a full month calendar. On the calendar, tap any day to see its events.
The three-dot menu in the top-right holds the create actions and settings — a new event, a new announcement, and the school's calendar settings, all in one place.
Creating an event
Open the Today tab, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right, and choose New event.
Pick a type: Class, Grading, Event, or Closure. The type sets the colour on the calendar and the wording of the push notification.
Add a title, an optional description (Markdown is supported), a cover image, a start and end time, and an optional location.
Link a location if you have one set up. The venue's assigned teacher fills onto the event automatically. See Locations.
Set who the event is for under Visibility — a minimum role, a minimum grade, or specific instructors.
Tap Create event. Published events send a push notification to eligible members.
Draft events are hidden from members until you flip Published on. Use draft mode if you want to line up a few events in advance without notifying members.
To delete an event, open it in the editor and tap the red bin icon in the top-right. Deletion removes the event from every member's calendar and can't be undone.
The event detail screen
Tapping an event opens a full screen, not a small sheet. It shows the cover image, a large title, the date, time and location, the teacher, and the full description. Add to calendar sits within easy reach, and members can mark whether they're coming if your school has turned that on — see Attendance & RSVP.
If you can edit the event, an Edit button appears here too. School leaders and admins can edit any event; instructors can edit events they created themselves.
Recurring events
The event editor has a Repeats section with preset pills and a Custom option:
- None — a one-off event.
- Daily — repeats every day, starting at the event time.
- Weekly on [weekday] — repeats on the same weekday as the start date.
- Monthly on the [Xth] — repeats on the same day each month.
- Custom… — opens a sheet for finer control: every N days/weeks/months, specific weekdays, and an optional end date or occurrence count.
A preview under the builder shows the next five occurrences so you can confirm the rule before saving.
Cancel a single occurrence
When a class is off for one week, you don't need to change the whole series. Open that day's event and choose Cancel this occurrence. The event stays on the calendar marked as cancelled, and the rest of the series carries on as normal.
You can add an optional reason when you cancel — "Instructor away" or "Hall booked elsewhere". Members see the reason on the event, so they know why the class isn't running.
Holiday blocks
For longer breaks — a half-term, a public holiday week, a studio closure — set up a holiday block instead of cancelling each class one by one. A holiday block covers a date range and quietly suppresses every recurring event that falls inside it.
Open the Today tab, tap the three-dot menu, and open the calendar settings.
Add a holiday block with a name, a start date, and an end date.
Save. Recurring events that land in the range no longer show for those dates. Remove the block any time to bring them back.
Holiday blocks affect recurring events only. A one-off event you've placed inside the range stays put — cancel it on its own if you need to.
Cover for one class
When another teacher takes a single session of a recurring class, open that day's event and swap the teacher under Cover. The change applies to that date only — the rest of the series keeps its usual teacher. The covering teacher is counted as attending that session automatically, so your attendance figures stay right. See Attendance & RSVP.
Editing an event
Open any event to reach its detail screen. For events you can edit, an Edit button opens the same editor you used to create the event. Edits to a recurring event apply to the whole series; to change a single date, cancel that occurrence or set cover instead.
- School leaders and admins can edit any event in the school.
- Instructors can edit only events they created themselves.
Time zones for travelling students
Every school has a time zone. By default it's the time zone of whoever created the school — set during the setup wizard. You can change it any time from Settings › School details › Time zone.
Events use the school's time zone for expansion and display. That means:
- A weekly class at 10:00 London time stays at 10:00 London time — even across daylight saving changes.
- Students travelling abroad see the event in the school's time zone with a small note showing their local time, like 10:00 · Europe/London (your local 11:00).
- Individual events can override the school's zone if you run a travelling workshop in a different country.
All-day events float — they show on the same calendar day regardless of where the viewer is. That's right for closure days and multi-day events that span a full day.
Adding events to your iPhone Calendar
Members can add any event to their iPhone Calendar with one tap:
Tap an event to open its detail screen.
Tap Add to calendar. The first time, iOS asks permission to add events to your calendar. Grant it.
The event appears in your default iPhone Calendar, in the school's time zone, with the title, time and location filled in.
If you denied permission by mistake, open the Settings app › C3NTR › Calendars and turn it back on.
The Up next home widget
There is an Up next widget for the Home Builder. It shows the next event coming up in a sliding window you control — 1 to 30 days. Add it from Home edit mode, and adjust the window using the slider in the widget's settings.
FAQ
Who can create events?
School leaders, school admins, and instructors can create events. Instructors can edit events they created themselves. School leaders and admins can edit any event in the school.
Are events available on every plan?
Events are available from the School plan upwards. Seed-plan schools see the Today tab without the calendar surfaces.
Do members get a reminder the day of the event?
Yes. A daily reminder is sent for events starting in the next 24 hours. Members can mute these in their notification settings.
Can I run a recurring event on the third Friday of every month?
Not yet. Recurring rules today support "every N days / weeks / months" and "on specific weekdays". If you need positional monthly rules, let us know and we can add them.
Can I cancel one week of a recurring class?
Yes. Open that day's event and choose Cancel this occurrence. Add a reason if you'd like — members see it on the event. The rest of the series keeps running.
What's the difference between a cancelled occurrence and a holiday block?
Cancel an occurrence for a single off day. Set a holiday block for a date range — it suppresses every recurring event inside it at once, which is easier for half-terms and closures.
Can another teacher take one session of a class?
Yes. Open that day's event and set Cover to swap the teacher for that date only. The covering teacher is counted as attending automatically.
